Ghosts

Ghosts, the 2004 CD Chris Wood, John Dipper and I recorded as the English Acoustic Collective is now available as a CD or download – use the Bandcamp player below or click here.  Considered by many to be a landmark release, this CD features my tunes Copernicus and St George’s Day as well as the Hugh Lupton / Chris Wood songs Bleary Winter and Mari Lwyd, John Dipper’s fantastic Kennington Jig, and our treatment of several traditional tunes including The Hare’s Maggot and Mr Isaac’s Maggot and the morris tunes Bonnets of Blue and the Cuckoo’s Nest.

Leveret New Album!

I’m delighted to announce that the new Leveret album Inventions was released on September 15th. Recorded in the lovely Wood Room at Real World in April this year, it’s a collection of new tunes by me, Sam and Andy – mostly newly written for this record although my never-recorded tunes Down to the Beach and Terminus manage to make it on there!

It’s available now direct from RootBeat Records or via Amazon, iTunes, etc!!

Concertina teaching

I’ll be teaching on the first Big Squeeze weekend in Witney, Oxfordshire this November – it’s an amalgamation of Hands on Music’s long-established weekends for concertina, melodeon, etc, but all rolled into one big new event.  Full information is here.

I’m also always happy to do one-to-one concertina lessons, either when I’m at home (in Gloucestershire) or to fit in with tour gigs – just use the contact form to get in touch.

And if you’re an beginner or absolute beginner concertina player, you might want to consider the West Country Concertina Players October Weekend at Kilve in Somerset – it’s aimed specifically at beginners and they even have instruments available to borrow and for short term hire.  I’m not teaching on this one (although I’ll be at their Spring weekend next year) but it’s a great opportunity for beginners to try the instrument out.

The Sandlings Sessions

I’m excited to be taking part in the first Sandlings Sessions, organised by the team behind the lovely Folk East festival.  Sandlings is a weekend of workshops and performances that will be of interest to instrumentalists and singers and it takes place at the wonderful Snape Maltings in Suffolk from 3rd-5th of February.  A lovely way to start a year of music making – hope to see you there.  Find out more here…

West Country Traditional Music Day

To celebrate the culmination of the Single Gloucester project, which has made available online all the traditional songs and tunes collected in Gloucestershire, I’ll be taking part in a special festival day in Gloucester on October 30th.

Emily Portman, Sam Sweeney, Miranda Rutter and I will be performing a one-off concert set of songs and tunes from the Gloucestershire archives, and the concert will also feature John Spiers and the Bristol Ceilidh Quartet.  I’ll be doing a concertina workshop during the day and Sam and Miranda will lead a fiddle workshop.
