I’m really looking forward to some Leveret gigs soon. We’re starting work on material for our next record in January, then going up to Celtic Connections on January 21st. And it’s not long now until our spring tour which starts on March 3rd in Peterborough. Full info at www.Leveretband.com – hope to see you at a gig.
To celebrate the culmination of the Single Gloucester project, which has made available online all the traditional songs and tunes collected in Gloucestershire, I’ll be taking part in a special festival day in Gloucester on October 30th.
Emily Portman, Sam Sweeney, Miranda Rutter and I will be performing a one-off concert set of songs and tunes from the Gloucestershire archives, and the concert will also feature John Spiers and the Bristol Ceilidh Quartet. I’ll be doing a concertina workshop during the day and Sam and Miranda will lead a fiddle workshop.
Sam, Andy and I are looking forward to our next UK tour in September, including a London gig at the wonderful King’s Place as well as our first ever gig in Scotland. See the gigs page for full details or visit www.LeveretBand.com for all our news. We’re also planning some exciting things for next year including a UK tour in March (now booking through Alan Bearman Music) and tours of Ireland and Germany.
Our gig in Lewes on September 10th also includes all day concertina, fiddle and melodeon workshops. For full details and to sign up please visit the Lewes Saturday Folk Club web site.
There are now just two places left on this year’s English Acoustic Collective summer school (Jul 18-22) … if you’re interested in coming please visit the website now to find out more.
I’ll be teaching concertina on this year’s Folkworks Adult Summer School in Durham (Aug 8-13). Find out more here.
I’m also doing a concertina workshop at Lewes on September 10th in connection with Leveret’s gig at the Lewes Saturday Folk Club – info and bookings here.
For one to one lessons, either while I’m on tour, here in Gloucestershire, or via SKYPE, please send me a message on the Contact page.

We will be revisiting the Made In the Great War show in September. The show tells the story of Sam’s fiddle and its maker, musician and amatuer luthier Richard Spencer Howard. The fiddle was carved in 1915 but Howard was called up to the Great War before he could complete it. A poignant and inspiring multimedia show featuring narration by master storyteller Hugh Lupton, music by Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron with Paul Sartin, and lighting and video by Emma Thompson. Full tour dates here.
