Here’s a tune I wrote about ten years ago when I lived on a narrowboat on the Kennet and Avon Canal.  One of my favourite places was close to the Dundas Basin, where there was a great place to moor up looking over the valley towards Brassknocker Hill.  I remember Verity Sharp coming to record me playing this tune there for a fantastic programme she made called England In Ribbons.

I hadn’t played it for a while, and then when Leveret started playing together I dug it out.  I used to play it in C but I’m really enjoying playing in Bb at the moment, and that’s the key Leveret play it in.  Here we are playing it live at Muziekclub ‘t Ey in Belsele, Belgium.

You can also hear it on the new Leveret CD In The Round … which is now available here.

Rob Harbron and Emma Reid

standing2It’s been a few years since Emma Reid and I have done any playing together in the UK, but in between Emma’s maternity breaks, we’ve a had a few lovely small tours in Sweden and we’ve even found time to record a lovely new album which will be available on this site soon.

We are now booking some short tours of small venues in the UK – we’ve found in the past that our duo works really well in house concerts and informal settings.  Dates will be announced soon but we are currently looking for gigs on December 4th 2015 and April 1-7 2016.  Our full biog is here…if you’d like to book us or are interested in hosting a house concert, please get in touch!

Made In The Great War – touring September 2015

tourBanner3We will be revisiting the Made In the Great War show in September.  The show tells the story of Sam’s fiddle and its maker, musician and amatuer luthier Richard Spencer Howard.  The fiddle was carved in 1915 but Howard was called up to the Great War before he could complete it.  A poignant and inspiring multimedia show featuring narration by master storyteller Hugh Lupton, music by Sam Sweeney and Rob Harbron with Paul Sartin, and lighting and video by Emma Thompson. Full tour dates here.

The Full English – The Final Tour

The Full English - group shot 1MBAfter several years, two tours, an album and two BBC Folk Awards, it’s time for The Full English to call it a day and move on to other projects.  It’s been a really amazing collaboration to be part of and it’s really reminded me how much undiscovered material there is in the archives at, not to mention other sources in books and online.

We have a nine day tour coming up, including a final gig at Cecil Sharp House in London, where we did our first ever performance in 2013.

New year, new website!

Hello and welcome … and apologies for leaving my old, outdated site up for so long that people were trying to get ticket for gigs which actually took place a year ago!

I’ve finally made the switch to WordPress to make it easier to add new content, and I’ve started a project of uploading dots and Youtube clips of tunes that I’ve written over the years – click the Tunes link.  More to follow!

Please let me know what you think with the email form on the Contact page or via Twitter.

All the best,
