Leveret Tour This Week!

Heading out on the road with Leveret this week for a lovely run of gigs starting in the newly refurbished Brighton Dome Studio Theatre on Thursday. We're revisiting some favourite venues like the National Centre for Early Music in York, Cambridge Junction, The Forge at The Anvil in Basingstoke, Wiltshire Music Centre and The Greystones in Sheffield. And we're delighted to be visiting some new venues - the Beyond the Moor Festival at Gosforth Civic Theatre, Upwey Music in Dorset, and the Jubilee Hall in lovely Aldeburgh.

Do get your tickets if you haven't already and we really look forward to seeing you on the road. There might be a few new tunes as we're working on material for our next album.

Gigs with Emily Portman

Emily and I have a short run of gigs coming up - the Bishop's House in Sheffield on October 31st, the Kirkgate Centre in Cockermouth on November 2nd, and the Black Fen Folk Club in Cambridge on November 3rd. Please come along if you're close by - really looking forward to these gigs.

Online teaching

I'm resuming online teaching after the Leveret tour - I've had an enforced break over the summer due to building work. If you're an English concertina player who would like some help with technique or ideas for how to develop your playing, please get in touch. I'm also happy to consider other topics - guitar, tune-writing, general musicianship etc - so do ask if you think there's anything I could help you with.

Lessons are online via zoom but I also have limited availability for in person lessons in Stroud. Drop me a line!

Christmas Concert in Gloucester Cathedral

I’m joining The Saint Cecilia Singers for their Christmas concert ‘Winter’s Rose’ in the beautiful Lady Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral on Friday 13 December at 8pm. We’re performing modern and folk-inspired settings of ancient carols alongside some solo pieces by me.

New EP - A Week in June

I'm delighted to release this new EP of original instrumental tracks. I recorded it in June 2022 as an exclusive for the Hudson Records subscriber club, taking the opportunity to set aside a week to focus on creating new music and attempting to compose and record a new track each day. It was a hugely enjoyable process and I'm delighted with how it came out. The tunes are reflections on the shifting season and the bittersweet undertones of midsummer, and my other EP As the Days Begin to Lengthen, written and recorded during January 2023, was actually a response to the June EP which came first.

New video series with The Folk Music Academy

I'm delighted to announce that my new English Concertina - Beginner video tuition series is now available on The Folk Music Academy. The course includes thirteen tuition videos featuring instrument basics, technique and traditional tunes, and there's also a performance video. I really enjoyed making this and it's a great learning tool as of course you can stop and repeat the videos as often as you want and play along.
