New video series with The Folk Music Academy

I'm delighted to announce that my new English Concertina - Beginner video tuition series is now available on The Folk Music Academy.  The course includes thirteen tuition videos featuring instrument basics, technique and traditional tunes, and there's also a performance video.  I really enjoyed making this and it's a great learning tool as of course you can stop and repeat the videos as often as you want and play along.

There are a range of subscription options and as well as my course they include access to the full range of videos covering many different instruments and traditions.  If you use my link to subscribe to The Folk Music Academy you will get 25% off your first payment until April 13th, and 10% off thereafter - visit The Folk Music Academy to find out more.

New EP - As The Days Begin to Lengthen

I'm delighted to release this five-track EP of instrumentals inspired by the lengthening days of January.  Over a week of January last year I wrote and recorded a tune each day, layering up concertina, mandolin and guitar and exploring some different time signatures and structures, and it was initially released for the Hudson Records subscriber club.  I'm delighted to be releasing it more widely now, in the season that inspired it.

You can download it now from the Music page or get it in your choice of format from my Bandcamp page.  There's a digital booklet with track notes that also features a few of my photographs.  It will also be on streaming from Jan 22nd but please be aware that even if you pay for a streaming subscription, the amount small artists receive for each stream is fractions of a penny.

Leveret Tour April 2024

Leveret are out on the road in April and we're looking forward to visiting some new venues for us, including a couple of gigs in Wales and also the amazing acoustic of Holy Trinity Church, Nailsea.  We're also delighted to be back at Reeth and at South Street, and we're rounding things off at Lansdown in Stroud. Ticket links on the gigs page or visit Leveretband.com for more info.

Emily Portman & Rob Harbron tour

Emily and I are about to start this short tour visiting some great venues.  We'll be playing songs from Time Was Away as well as some others from our duo repertoire including a new song or two and a couple that explore themes suitable for Halloween!

The National Centre for Early Music is a great venue and a suitably atmospheric setting for a Halloween gig; we then make a first visit to the highly regarded Temperance in Leamington Spa and then head on to Exeter Pheonix, always a great venue to visit.  Then we've got a special gig in the Tudor gem that is The Folk of Gloucester (formerly Gloucester Folk Museum) - an amazing historic building that's well worth a visit - and we round things off in lovely Ludlow at the Assembly Rooms.

We're really looking forward to these duo gigs so please do come along if you can.  All ticket links are at https://emilyandrob.uk/gigs.  We'll be announcing a longer tour in March 2024 shortly.

Meanders

This is my solo CD Meanders, recorded over two days last year.  11 tracks of self-composed and traditional tunes, with photography by Camilla Greenwell and an all-cardboard Digifile designed by Robin Beatty.  I'm really happy with it and delighted to have finally done it! Listen to a preview track and order now!

The Servants' Ball

Inspired by a set list from Scan Tester's Country Dance Band, this new CD of music, song and step dancing is a contemporary take on the music that was played by dance bands in the 1920s & 30s. Ewan Wardrop (vocals, ukulele, step dance), Rob Harbron (concertina), Ben Paley (fiddle), Ben Nicholls (double bass), Julian Hinton (piano), Evan Jenkins (drums)  Order now or listen to a preview track

This year's English Acoustic Collective Summer School is postponed due to COVID-19. We will release details about next year's course as soon as possible.
